Resitting the TCF for one section puts the other three back on the line.

August 21, 20261 min read

The TCF Canada is taken as one block of four sections. Many candidates think the way they did at school: fail a subject, resit that subject. There is no per-section resit here.

What it costs

To fix a single score, you sit all four sections again. The other three, already good, start from zero on the day of the new session.

Nothing guarantees you will land at the same level twice: every session is marked on its own, on its own material.

Key points

  • Four compulsory sections in one sitting: listening, reading, writing, speaking.
  • No partial version is accepted for immigration. Another attempt means the full test and another registration fee.
  • Over the last 30 days, 154 candidates trained on the platform and only 37 worked on both comprehension sections.

Why so many candidates get this wrong

You train on the section you enjoy, or on the one that scares you. The other two wait their turn. That logic holds only while you believe a single score can be fixed on its own — and it cannot. What reaches your file is the whole session, weakest section included.

How to avoid the trap

Before you book a session, sit each of the four sections once under real conditions. The point is not to improve that day, it is to find out which one drags you down. It is almost never the one you feared: the figures above show three candidates in four leave an entire comprehension section out of their preparation.
